Time to Update Your Copyright; Your Friendly Annual Reminder

Posted on 12.30.2014

Take a minute from reading all those year-end wrap up's and prediction lists to do something really, really important for your website right now - change the copyright notice in the website's footer.

While it might seem like something that can wait, a current timestamp and copyright notice shows users (prospective and existing customers) that your business is currently active, functioning, operational. What would you do if you came upon a website with a footer that indicated the last time you were present was last year? While you may not leave, you would most certainly wonder how much those responsible are actually paying attention.

Fortunately, most software systems today make the adjustment automatically (or provide access to plugins, extensions, modules, etc) to help webmasters make this very important change. Should you be sporting a custom website that doesn't offer that functionality, you won't need to get your digital hands dirty with the code more than once. Aptly named actually provides code which enables you to change the static timestamp on a website and its footer to an automatically updating copyright year or other dynamic timestamp with a single snippet of code (Javascript and PHP supported).

Again, not updating your copyright notices is not going to ruin your website, but it is a good way to show prospects and existing customers that your enterprise is ready to serve.
