TOP50 Web Design and Development Resources

Those responsible (and reliant) on advertising and marketing budgets aren't the only ones feeling the effects of a down economy - Web designers and developers are getting hit too. So what can you do when companies halt or slow the hiring of website designers and application builders? Heading back to the drawing board might be just the best course of action - for now.

Professional designers and developers alike understand that when budgets for online advertising sink, so do the opportunities available to them. Companies often don't feel the pressing need for custom landing pages or new Facebook applications. The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) announced in early October that compared to the first half of 2007, online ad spending grew 15.2 percent in 2008 - a significant reduction from the 27 percent increase recorded during the same period the previous year. The decline in ad spend should be a cause for concern - innovation and investment in Web services and technology often rely greatly on advertising spend.

This edition of Website Magazine features 50 of the top Web design and development resources available on the Internet. While you might find some of your favorite resources absent from this list, keep in mind that this is but one sample of the overall behavior of one subset of the entire Web population. This list does, however, provide a valuable look as to where other Web designers and developers might be spending their time, learning new techniques and acquiring new skills and preparing themselves for better times.
