Transfer to Google's Universal Analytics

Posted on 10.23.2013

Internet professionals that have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to upgrade to the new Universal Analytics from Google can now do so thanks to the release of a new tool announced this week.

Universal Analytics will likely be quite a draw as it enables Google Analytics users to track customer interactions across platforms and devices. The issue that Google has had to deal with is how to move existing properties to the new infrastructure without losing any historical data.

This week, however, Google announced an "Upgrade Center" to help its users move from the current version to the new Universal Analytics.

The new tool will move properties within 24 to 48 hours after the transfer has been initiated. After completion, any data that is collected with the old tracking code (ga.js) will be processed using the new Universal Analytics technology. At that point, in order to receive all the benefits of the new platform (including custom dimensions and metrics), the new tracking code (analytics.js) will need to be installed/implemented on the website.

Below is an image of the screen Google Analytics users will see when initiating the transfer.
