Turn Google+ Content into Ads
Soon, brands will be able to turn Google+ posts into advertisements that can run across the more than 2 million sites in the Google Display Network.
According to an announcement posted on Google’s Eran Arkin’s Google+ page, the company has started testing a new ad format called +Post ads. These ads enable brands to take a piece of their public Google+ content, including photos, videos and Hangouts, and turn it into a display ad that runs in the Google Display Network.
“+Post ads will allow advertisers to start conversations right from the ad - consumers can reshare a video, leave a comment or a question for the brand, or even join a live Hangout,” Arkin’s post states. “These conversations create a valuable community around a brand where people can talk with each other and with the brand itself.”
Currently, only a select group of partners have the ability to run post ads, including Toyota, Ritz Crackers and Cadbury. That said, early results show that the ads have seen expansion rates 50 percent higher than the industry average for rich media ads. According to Arkin, the ad format should be opened up to more advertisers sometime in the next few months, after Google has collected feedback from both brands and users.
