Twitter Gets Local with New Ad Unit
Social messaging platform Twitter announced the expansion of its Promoted Accounts ad unit to consumer timelines on mobile devices.
“These recommendations leverage Tweets as a call to action and display natively in the home timeline,” said Tarun Jain in a Twitter blog post. “For example, a new coffee shop could run a geotargeted Promoted Accounts campaign in timeline to build awareness about their business and explain why users should follow them on Twitter.”
The new ad unit will appear to the left of the timeline for users on desktops, and in the Discover stream (an interest-based suggestions feature) for those on mobile devices.
Twitter will need to roll out as many viable local advertising options as possible as more than 75 percent of its audiences access the network from a smartphone.
