Twitter Helps Verified Users Connect
Twitter is taking steps to make it easier for public figures (verified users) to engage with other public figures on the social network.
The social network announced the roll out of two new mobile app features for verified users earlier this month. For starters, Twitter will now provide alerts to users within the social network’s Android and iOS apps when another verified user follows them. Additionally, Twitter is enabling iOS users to view their verified followers from their own profile. According to the social network, these features should help verified users more easily connect with each other.
“Similar to how we help businesses make advertising simple and effective on Twitter, we occasionally build features that enable these public figures — verified users — to engage more easily with the world through Twitter,” stated the social network in a blog post.
It is important to note that these features expand on the social network’s filtering functionality that was rolled out to verified users last year, which enables them to filter their mentions in the Connect tab between three categories – all, filtered and verified.
While Twitter doesn’t accept requests to have accounts verified, the social network notes that it verifies accounts on an ongoing basis and focuses on highly sought users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports and business.
