User Feedback Influencing Facebook News Feed Ads
You’ll likely see fewer irrelevant ads in your Facebook News Feed in the coming weeks. The social network announced changes to its algorithm that it indicated will put more emphasis on user feedback, most notably the frequency at which its user report or hide ads.
Facebook believes these changes/updates will improve the relevance and quality of its social advertisements because it won’t be showing those promotions to users that simply aren’t interested.
“For marketers, this means we are showing ads to the people who might want to see them the most,” said Hong Ge, Facebook’s Engineering Manager of News Feeds Ads said. “For example, if someone always hides ads for electronics, we will reduce the number of those types of ads that we show to them.”
Facebook also provided a clue as to some future improvements, as it revealed that they are “continuously trying” to optimize when and where they are showing ads. Are time of day and device specific ads coming to Facebook. And of so, how soon?
