Visa Users Swipe Through Checkout

Posted on 3.10.2016

Visa released a new way for Visa Checkout users to complete a purchase by simply sliding a virtual image of their card across the screen of a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

The new interactive button essentially just presents a new/different way to experience paying with Visa Checkout, but is it enough to convince users to keep using the payment solution? And further, enough to encourage merchants to continue making it available?

Visa Checkout, which was introduced in 2014, formerly used a lightbox which may have turned off some customers and limited interaction. Now, however, consumers will see a picture of their card on the Visa Checkout button. Swiping that card to the right, and then entering the password inside the button itself, will provide the necessary authentication and complete the purchase.

Pilot tests, according to Visa, were quite positive. Those shoppers who used the interactive button were twice as likely, in fact, to click through and complete their purchase.

“Visa Checkout’s new interactive button is yet another way we are designing the future of online checkout and delivering on our promise to bring the simplicity of the swipe to any device,” said Sam Shrauger, senior vice president of Visa’s digital solutions. “This new experience brings digital payments one step closer to the ease, trust and familiarity that consumers have long valued from Visa in the physical world.”
