Webmaster Tools Showing Faulty Mobile Redirects

Posted on 12.04.2013

Google announced that it has expanded the Crawl Errors notification feature available in Webmaster Tools to help websites identify which pages are misconfigured for smartphone-optimized websites.

The new Smartphone errors tab (seen below) will show the specific pages that Google has identified as having problems. For example smartphone users that are redirected to an irrelevant page when desktop users are shown the correct content. As you may recall, Google noted in early June 2013 that faulty redirects (http://wsm.co/mobileseo13) are one of the most significant barriers to successful mobile SEO.

The errors that will be shown include server errors (when Googlebot received an HTTP error status code), not found errors and soft 404s, faulty redirects and blocked URLs. Some of these problems, namely the fault redirects and blocked URLs, can significantly damage a website's user experience and negatively influence ranking for smartphone search results.
