WordPress Unveils Version 4.0

Posted on 8.26.2014

Considering WordPress accounts for 23 percent of all websites on the Net, when a new version is released it tends to be a big deal.

With the first release candidate of WordPress 4.0, the popular content management system (CMS) has updated its platform with several revamped features for its users with one of the largest updates being to the Media Library.

Now, in addition to the existing list view, users can select to see their media in a sleek grid view. The Media Library also now allows users to view an enlarged preview, edit information as well as navigate between attachments without closing the enlarged preview.

Another notable change is to the plugin install experience. When searching for new plugins, users will no longer see them in a list view but in a multi-column card view. WordPress states that the new card-view will give a more useful and quick overview of plugins.

Other changes rolled out with WordPress 4.0 are previews of content being embedded via URLs, a new installation language screen, an intelligently resizing post editor as well as a separate panel for widget customization settings.
