Yahoo Updates Domain Redirect Settings

Posted on 6.03.2007

The Yahoo Store Blog announced an update that will surely please those in pursuit of greater search engine visibility. Yahoo updated their Domain Redirect Setting last week to allow store owners to perform a 301 (permanent) redirect for all domains and hostnames pointing to your store to a single store domain of your choice.

Via the official Yahoo! Store Blog: We have now expanded the list of domains for the 301 redirect to include ALL domains and hostnames that are pointing to your store (www.acme.com, http://acme.com, www.myacmestore.com). This means that you will now to able to perform a permanent redirect of all your web traffic to a single domain of your choice. This update will allow you to consolidate all URLs that are pointing to the same page to a single URL.

What this means is that you can now consolidate all your store’s domains and hostnames to a single domain of your choice. Consolidating multiple URLs will combine the search engine ranking for those URLs into a single URL. While no guarantees can be made about how this change will impact your rankings, it is considered best practice to consolidate URLs.
