General Availability for Dot Black

Registry service Afilias has announced general availability for the .BLACK generic top level domain.

Afilias (the second largest domain registry with more than 20 million names under management) is touting the .BLACK extension as elegant and chic, while at the same time being "serious and authoritative", going as far as to compare the extension to the black robes of a judge which "lends gravitas and illustrates that you are an authoritative source on a topic or issue and that your website or email content is thoughtful and serious."

"Addresses in the .BLACK domain will enable luxury businesses and sophisticated individuals to show that they are arbiters of style," said Roland LaPlante, Senior Vice President and CMO, Afilias. "Their sophistication is a given. For the Internet, .BLACK is the new black."

In its first day of general availability, nTLDstats is reporting that the .BLACK extension received just 153 registrations.
