Buzzword Watch: Cautious Pause

Written by Pete Prestipino | Mar 20, 2009 5:00:00 AM

You encounter a lot of buzzwords and jargon when you first come in to the Web industry. But newbies should know that they're not the only ones who encounter new terms. Even old pros like me encounter terminology that catches our attention and influences content. One of the terms I encountered this morning was "cautious pause."

A "cautious pause" relates to an increasing trend in consumer behavior during this sour economy during which the shopper stops to consider every purchase, instead of buying on impulse. The impact online will negatively affect many, including recommendation engine solution providers. Perhaps the effect will be positive for comparison engines.

As an Internet retailer, are you noticing anything in your analytics that might be a sign of more cautious pauses? Less time on site? Smaller order size? Fewer related items purchased? We want to know - share your thoughts by commenting now.
