The Fourth of July is quickly approaching, which means that summer sales are currently in full-force across merchants' virtual and traditional storefronts.

In fact, a recent infographic from ecommerce navigation solutions provider Nextopia predicts that ecommerce sales will reach $304 billion in the U.S. in 2014, with the average American spending $300 on the Fourth of July.

According to the data, Independence sales typically start June 29 and run until July 4, with many retailers featuring sales on summer essentials like pool and beach accessories, home improvement supplies, furniture and electronics. That said, fireworks make up the most sales during the holiday ($600 million), followed by holiday cookout staples like burger patties and toppings ($557 million), beer ($341 million), charcoal ($111 million) and lighter fluid ($94million). For online shoppers, however, the most commonly searched items include items like recipes, decorations, nail designs, party ideas, fireworks and desserts.
