Pinterest referral traffic is growing at an alarming rate. In fact, a recent study from Piqora found that the average visit-per-pin increased 172 percent in the first half of 2014.

 

Moreover, the average revenue-per-pin grew by 67 percent in the same time period. This data proves that Pinterest offers many opportunities to brands who are taking advantage of the platform. Brands that haven't established a presence on the social network, however, are seriously missing out.

The Pinterest Analytics dashboard recently underwent a refresh. The dashboard now includes more detailed analytics, including the ability for users to see what people are pinning from their website and the ability to see how pins from their own Pinterest profile are performing.

The Pin It button is necessary for any brand looking to establish a presence on Pinterest.  Brands can incoproate the button into their sites to make it simple for consumers to share content onto the social network. Plus, Pinterest notes that businesses who use the Pin It button often see an increase in referral traffic.

 

 

Rich Pins

 

Rich Pins are pins that include more detailed information than regular pins. Currently, Pinterest offers five types of Rich Pins, including Place Pins, Article Pins, Product Pins and Recipe Pins. Brands must apply in order to incorporate Rich Pins into their site, as well as prep their site with meta tags. The benefit of having these pins is that they are more engaging and link back to the original source.

 

 

Promoted Pins

 

There is no better way to increase engagement on a social network than with advertising, and Pinterest is currently testing its Promoted Pin ad option. With Promoted Pins, brands can pay to promote specific Pins so they appear in relevant search results. Plus, brands can target the audiences that see the Promoted Pin and track how their campaign performs. That said, since Promoted Pins are still being tested, brands that are interested must first sign up to join the waitlist.
