Yahoo Differentiates By Upping the Ante with Yelp Listings

Earlier this month, Yahoo announced a partnership with local review service Yelp, which will integrate business listings into Yahoo Search results, differentiating itself from competitors including Google and Bing.

While it is unlikely that the deal will result in much more traffic to Yelp listings, it's wise for merchants and service providers using the platform to check and ensure the accuracy of existing listings anyway as some of the Yelp data could ultimately start appearing with the Yahoo index.

In December, Yahoo claimed 10.8 percent of the search market, compared with Google's 67.3 percent and Microsoft's 18.2 percent, according to comScore. Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer has made known her affinity for the mobile/local space. As Yahoo could exit the search pact with Microsoft in 2015,

The deal was announced several weeks ago, but it doesn't seem that the Yelp data has been integrated yet.
